Whew, April has flown by! As we approach May, there are a few things to pass along for your information.
• If you’ve visited the Development Services Department's downtown office during the past year or so, you’ve probably noticed a lot of construction taking place on the plaza adjacent to our building (One Exchange Plaza). Exchange (pictured above) and Market Plazas have undergone substantial renovations and we are happy to mark the completion with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. today. Mayor Nancy McFarlane is the featured speaker for the ceremony. Market Plaza, located between 227 and 239 Fayetteville St, will feature local crafts, music, food and juices to demonstrate its potential as an event space from 1 to 3 p.m.
• The Department of City Planning is coordinating an update to the Comprehensive Plan. Adopted in 2009, the plan calls for regular updates to keep it fresh and adaptable in a changing world.

o Give us your feedback! Your participation in this process is the key to making sure that the needs of all residents are met. You can visit our website to learn more about the update and leave comments via the OpenComment tool. We also encourage all residents to attend one of our community meetings where we will share draft recommendations for amending the plan and ask for your feedback. The next meeting is this Thursday, followed by two more in May. Here are the details:
- Thursday, April 28, John Chavis Memorial Community Center 6:30-8:30 p.m.
- Monday, May 2, Brier Creek Community Center 6:30-8:30 p.m.
- Thursday, May 5, Millbrook Exchange Community Center 6:30-8:30 p.m.
• Our next UDC Talks session will be held on May 18th from noon - 1:30 p.m. at the City of Raleigh Museum located at 220 Fayetteville Street. The topic will be “Art Everywhere: Community-Driven Public Art.” The guest speaker will be Kim Curry-Evans, Public Art Coordinator with the City’s Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department. The lecture is free and open to the public. Guests are invited to bring their lunch and can earn continuing education credits for attending. More details about this session will be available soon!
That’s all for today! Thanks for reading!
