Thanks to Paul Kallam, Engineering Manager, and John Kane of Kane Realty Corporation, we had the chance to tour the new Bank of America Tower at North Hills. The tower has a prominent location along Six Forks Road and I-440 and offers stunning views of Raleigh. The groundbreaking was in September, 2014, and it is now nearing completion. Here are some photos for your enjoyment!

Ahhhhh, the 70’S are back (temperatures, that is!). For me, the sunshine and warm temps are a welcome change. And speaking of change, the Development Services Department is implementing some procedural changes that we want you to be aware of.

We recently met with Carole Meyre, Raleigh Citizens Advisory Council (RCAC) Chairperson, to discuss how we could help citizens find information about development projects in their communities.

Beginning today, the first DSinsider blog of each month will identify some of the noteworthy development projects that were submitted for review during the previous month. And since we’ll only be covering a few here, we’ve published recent case files for all proposed development projects and zoning proposals for you to browse (cases are listed by most recent submittal for the current calendar year).

I recently had the chance to sit down with one of our Project Coordinators, Chip Shankle, who obtained his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification in 2008. Knowing that he is constantly interacting with our plan reviewers, intake staff, and customers, I asked if he had any suggestions for relevant blog topics. He quickly provided a list of things that have been known to cause delays in the plan review process. Over the next few months, I will be sharing some of his tips for preventing such delays so that you can stay on track.

Chip’s Tip: Be realistic when establishing a timeline for your project. Don’t “back in,” or focus on the finish line without considering the uncertainties.

Express Review, one of our face-to-face services, has consistently been a customer favorite. As the name implies, Express is an expedited review process that provides an opportunity for design professionals and project managers to meet face-to-face with City staff during the plan review to iron out potential roadblocks.

Until now, our Customer Service Center Manager has overseen this program. Seeing the need for a dedicated supervisor, the Development Services Department has hired its first Express Services Program Supervisor, Erin Anderson.
