ContinuingEducation 1000x750Did you know that the City of Raleigh offers continuing education classes for field inspectors, plan reviewers, architects, engineers, and electrical contractors? Hundreds from across the state have attended classes in the traditional classroom setting, while others have opted for our online courses. Either way, we offer students an easy and convenient way to obtain their required continuing education credits.

 Here's a little background...

The City’s continuing education program began back in 2006 in response to new requirements for continuing education. The North Carolina Qualification Board established new rules requiring a minimum of six hours annually, per trade. The Board set the requirements for classes and instructors, and approved the City’s request to begin a continuing education program.

Since then, the City annually submits a list of courses and instructors to the Department of Insurance (DOI) for approval. We are proud to say that we are now a member of the International Code Council’s (ICC) preferred provider network, meaning that our courses are also approved for ICC credit. This program recognizes and promotes ICC-approved educational offerings as they relate to codes, standards and guidelines, as well as building construction materials, products and methods.

We offer two methods of training...

The traditional courses are taught at our Litchford satellite office, complete with all the latest in modern technology. Each class is two hours, approved by the DOI and ICC, and applies continuing education units (CEU's) to standard certificates held in the building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and fire protection trades. Electrical contractors licensed in N.C. are also eligible for CEU's.

For those not able to attend in person, the City offers a limited selection of online courses. This option allows students from across the state to work remotely without incurring the expense and inconvenience of travel. Additional information about the online program, including course registration and availability, can be found on our website.

Our FY 16/17 schedule is now available...

We’ve been working hard to establish a training schedule for the new fiscal year and are happy to say that it is now published. The tentative schedule includes 17 courses, the first of which is slated for August 12th. We recommend that anyone interested in registering send an This email address is being protected from spambots. We are excited about this program and hope to see you at one (or more) of our classes! Any questions can be submitted here as a comment, or sent directly to Jason Ruff, our Chief Residential Permit and Training Officer.
