Whether you’re a Raleigh resident looking for basic property information, or a commercial developer preparing to submit a complete application package, iMaps can help you find the most current and accurate information available.
iMaps (Internet Multi-Access Parcel System) was developed by Raleigh GIS and Wake County GIS in an effort to provide the general public with easy access to City and County graphic and attribute databases. Users can search by owner name, address, place of interest or intersection and retrieve a variety of maps and property information.
Before beginning any project, we recommend that you conduct a little research to ensure that what you are submitting is accurate. The amount of information required at intake will depend on the type and complexity of the project. Each process has a unique set of submittal requirements to ensure a thorough review without unnecessary delays resulting from a lack of information.
I would like to preface the following by saying that I am not an iMaps expert. I have used it many times to locate basic property information such as owner name, address, subdivision name, Parcel Identification Number (PIN), Deed Book and Page number, and a detailed description of the property. I have also used it to view photos of the property. iMaps provides pictures of structures on the property, as well as aerial (birds-eye) photos. While some of these aerial photos date back more than thirty years, most parts of the City were first photographed more recently.
iMaps is also helpful if you are seeking more detailed information. Once you conclude your property search, you'll see a tab entitled "Show Additional Layers" on the lower right-hand side of the screen. Here you will find information about demographics, environmental conditions, parks and greenways, Planning and Zoning boundaries, utility easements, and stormwater features near the property.
If you are in the early stages of a project and need to identify prior development approvals in the vicinity of the property, iMaps can help. Once you have done your property search, you'll again look toward the lower right corner of the screen. You’ll see an icon with a red and white City flag. Click on that and a “Planning” tab will appear. This is where you’ll find all Planning File #’s related to the property. Once you have the Planning File #, you can visit the Development Approvals web page and click on the appropriate link for more information.
And while it probably won’t help you prepare for plan submittal, you may be interested to know that you can use iMaps to find information about Solid Waste collection days, fire and EMS districts, and contact information of those that represent you, including House and Senate representatives, Wake County Board of Commissioners, Wake County Board of Education, and Raleigh City Council.
If you are new to iMaps and would like assistance, there are easy to understand video tutorials available by clicking on the HELP button in iMaps. Or you can contact one of our helpful customer service representatives at the DSCSC.
Thanks for reading and have a wonderful week!
